When looking at braces for a crooked smile, the first thing patients ask is, “What can’t I eat?” We explain that avoiding corn on the cob, hard candies, and chewing gum is a great idea. But, you don’t have to experience those restrictions with Invisalign®.
When orthodontic braces are not an option for appearance or motor sensory issues, Invisalign® treatment is a good alternative for adults and teens who have their permanent molars. Perhaps you are a performer, and you don’t want the shine of braces in the spotlight. Maybe you want to be able to eat corn on the cob. Whatever your reason for researching Invisalign®, we have prepared a list of what to expect.
- Meet with your orthodontist to see how your new smile can look. Your doctor will use the iTero Element® to create a precise and quick 3D digital scan of your teeth. Your doctor will use this scan to come up with a highly personalized treatment plan just for your mouth.
- When you return for your first set of aligners, your doctor will make sure they fit (as close as possible while they are starting to move your teeth gently into position). You will wear your aligners almost the entire day, removing them to eat and brush and floss your teeth.
- You will check back in every 4 to 6 weeks. Expect to see finished results in 6 to 18 months depending on the severity of your treatment and how long you wear your aligners.
- Wear a retainer each night after you have achieved the appearance you like.
